About

Alejandro Ortiz

Alejandro Ortiz Architects, Inc., dissolved in 2012, was a Los Angeles–based architectural firm that began in 1992 as Alejandro Ortiz Design Studio. This site serves as a historical archive of the firm's work and maintains my professional email contact.

After graduating from UC Berkeley in 1995, I worked with Steven Lerner, AIA, in Providence, RI, for three years before moving to Los Angeles. There, I trained under architects such as Frank Israel and Frank Gehry and earned a Master of Architecture from UCLA.

During my 20 years of practice in Los Angeles, the firm worked on a wide range of projects from single-family homes to large-scale commercial developments.

Since arriving in Los Angeles in 1987, I've found the city to be a mesmerizing, vibrant, and inspiring place to live. Over the years, I became involved in civic life, serving as a redevelopment commissioner for the City of Los Angeles and on various boards supporting the arts and the environment. I also served as Chair of the Board for Friends of the Los Angeles River (FOLAR).

In 2012, I conceived an idea for a social media platform that would help people connect through shared interests tied to specific locations. This idea led me to learn coding—an unexpected path that quickly became a passion. Since then, I've developed several apps for iOS and Android. I'm still actively working on the original concept, called BulletNBoard, which I hope to launch in the coming months.

Throughout the firm's evolution, we embraced the changing landscape of architectural design, striving to create spaces that serve as "frozen music"—shaped by the philosophies and aesthetics of our time. These images and projects, now showing some wear, reflect a journey rather than a destination, shared with a genuine commitment to ongoing growth. In looking back, we find meaning in the process itself and remain eager for what the future may bring.

Thank you to all the employees, consultants, and clients who were part of this journey. Your contributions were essential to the firm's success.
